BrowseHow to compress a PDF to 200 KB
- Drop the PDF above. The target is preset to Under 200 KB; you can change it.
- Click Compress and wait a few seconds. Big scans take longer, because each image is re-encoded on your device.
- Read the result: it shows the size in KB and bytes, and the JPEG quality and image size it settled on.
- Download and open the file to check it before you upload it anywhere.
When does 200 KB work?
200 KB is a common limit on application portals for things like a CV, a mark sheet or a scanned certificate. In practice:
- One to five scanned pages usually fit with readable text.
- PDFs made from Word, Google Docs or similar are often already under the limit, because their text is not stored as pictures.
- Long scans, or files full of photos, may not fit. Cut the pages you do not need with Extract pages, then compress again.
How the target works
FilesStay first tries a gentle setting. If the file is still too big it tries the harshest setting, then searches between the two for the gentlest one that fits. That way you do not lose more quality than you have to. Fonts, text and vector drawings are left as they are, so if those make up most of the file, the target may be out of reach. When that happens you get the smallest version and a plain explanation.
Questions
How long does it take?
Usually a few seconds. A large scan can take longer because the tool may try several settings, each re-encoding every image on your device.
Will my text stay sharp?
Real text stays sharp at any setting. Text inside a scanned image gets softer as the image is compressed harder.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no daily limit.
